[Game] スイーツ作り Making Sweets~!

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

It is the end of December! Have you arranged plans for your year-end party/countdown?

Instead of introducing a whole bunch of games this month, I'm introducing this new game app I have found! The title of the game is スイーツ作り! Making Sweets~!

If you are familiar with Mushroom Garden aka Funghi Growing Kit, this game works in a similar fashion! You bake treats with the ingredients available, and you use your finger to swipe them off the oven like 'harvesting'!

Brown Packages tied up with String + caramel corn + ramblyrambleramblah + Paris Baguette

, by dollonstrings

Shassu!
The present in the foreground is a towel from Esprit that someone from church gave me even though I stopped attending church about two years ago.
I'm not sure who gave it, because they passed it to me by proxy of my brother. I may have to gift them the green tea cookies I bought for the lolita gift exchange.
I stopped by Daiso for some dehumidifiers. I use their dehumidifiers for my lolita closet (my loli is kept separately from my normal clothes), and picked up the pretty gift box (which closes magnetically) as well as cocoa-flavoured caramel corn. The caramel corn is really addictive, but so-o heaty. u__u

more purchases, pastry, a vintage skirt and pics under the cut~!

[Personal] Trip to Legoland!

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Good morning!

So dollonstrings and I had signed up for a Groupon to travel to Legoland and other places quite some time ago, but we only had time to go for it now XD The meetup timing was 7am at Newton Hawker Centre carpark. Initially they wrote 6.30am on the receipt, and we were cracking our heads over how to get to Newton cheaply. But 7am is perfectly fine (:

Photos taken using Canon IXUS 220 H (with a wonky lens!). Photo spam ahead!

OOTD!

Didn't have a decent shot of myself, so this one by dollonstrings!

Kateyo Hitman Reborn (KHR) Shirt from AFA 2012. I love that event so so much. <3 No make for today too!

[School] Term-End Module Review

School's out for the year! Now, this will not be applicable to everyone, but I hope if you're an NUS student, this post on module reviews will help you somewhat. ^^

It is Year 3 Semester 1 for me, so most of my modules would require prerequisites, but fret not because there is a GEM module in the list of modules I've taken this semester ((:

[Psych] Can't stop thinking about your fats? It might really make you fat

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

It has been a long time since I have posted something pyschology-related! So here is one for you today!

Researchers from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) asked over 1,000 normal-weight teenagers how they viewed their bodies, then checked back with them 11 years later. 78% of participants who had felt overweight as teens ended up overweight as adults.

WHAT?!

Does this mean if I keep thinking about my wrinkles/pimples/dark eye circles, I will get more wrinkles/pimples/dark eye circles?

What about my academic grades? Or income? Does thinking about those lead to increases?

-okay enough kidding-

The researchers' theory is that for some people, thinking about their fats negatively impacts their eating habits. For example, someone who wants to lose weight may skip meals, resulting in a reduced metabolism. When the body cannot metabolize as efficiently as before, it becomes easier to put on weight! So skipping meals isn't the ideal way to lose weight.

Another possible reason is that thinking about losing weight can lead to psychosocial stress, which puts more burden on the body and can lead to weight increases. Some of us do binge when stressed, yes?

Of course, we are all different, so the results of one study may not always be applicable to you. There are many likely reasons as to why some people do end up overweight, and there are as many reasons as to why some of us do not end up overweight, or can even lose weight, like me. For example, if thinking about your fats motivates you to do something productive about it, then good for you! ^_^ But too much of anything is never good, so take caution.

[Event] EOY 2012

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Over the weekend, dollonstrings and I were volunteering as GMs (Game Masters) for EOY Quest! Did you have fun playing EOY Quest? :D

Not too many pictures, since I forgot to bring my camera, and so only had my phone to contend with. But! The good thing about posting a little later than the rest is that you get to snag pretty photos from other people XD

And while dollonstrings has announced that this will be her last event wearing lolita to, this was my first event wearing Lolita XD My dress was from Dear Celine (TB Lolita brand), blouse from Axes Femme (non-lolita brand) and shoes from an*tai*na (TB Lolita shoes brand)

EOY 2012

, by dollonstrings

My last exam was last friday. After that I've been settling some things, doing lolita laundry, catching up with close friends I've neglected and sung Etsuraku Camellia at EOY.

EOY 2012 this year was at the Marina Barrage. a.k.a. the most ulu location possible!
It was hot, sunny, hot and hot. The minute I stepped out of the cab (shared a cab with my pretty friend S), sweat started rolling down my face. u___u
I volunteered to help at the EOY Quest booth with Ama-chan, but because of the runway and performance, I was only there 1/3 of the time. I feel a bit bad about not helping out more. ):

pictures and a mini mini rant under the cut!

Earlier, I was one of the lucky 30 people who won three masks from NARUKO. You had to answer 4 questions in their Retro Mask quiz correctly to be entitled for a chance to win. How many of you won? ^^

I was so excited to receive them that I tried one that very night! It was time for a mask anyway (twice a week, with 3 days in between, ladies!).

Making a special appearance is pear-flavoured Kit Kat from Japan!

[Games] November Games Summary!

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Disclaimer: This post is purely my own and does not represent the opinions of any parties/companies mentioned.

So here's my summary of games that I've played throughout November.

It's still school term, so games are of a shorter duration, like hidden object games (HOG). There's enough fun in there to keep you satisfied with breaks from studying (:

I also have my fair share of wrong game choices, so you will see that the time taken is unknown because I gave up on the game halfway xD

IT fair~

, by dollonstrings

Two of my friends were working at SITEX this weekend, so I decided to drop by.
Amaya was working in her meido as usual, helping to promote Anibee. Signing up got me a goodie bag with three Doraemon toys and some manga, including Mask Rider. Ama-chan pics are under the cut. ;)

Okay, so my ulterior motive was really to nab a hard drive, since mine is spoilt. The smallest available nowadays is 500gb, and it goes for the same price that my 120gb hard drive went for two years ago. My dad asked me why I didn't get a 1tb hard drive. I told him that by the time I need 1tb of space, it will be the same price as the 500gb one is now.

I do foresee needing more space as I take more photographs, but what with study and work, there's not been time for photoshoots. ):

[Photoshoot] Street Angels!

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

It is a very busy month for Amaya here! Attended AFA 2012, had the most awesome backstage experience and met a gazillion people, Sanrio's Meet & Greet session to have a Hello Kitty manicure, and also a photoshoot for Street Angels by Noriaki-san!

So what is Street Angels?

It is a project spearheaded by Noriaki Tsuchiya-san, which is a free iPhone app that functions as your phone clock! There is an 'angel' (girl) for every minute of the day, and another angel for every day of the year! In essence, this app will showcase 60mins x 24hrs = 1440photos of different girls/angels (:

[Anime][Music] Macross Frontier

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

A few weeks months back, I finally managed to finish the whole anime series of Macross Frontier and the two movies (The False Songstress & Wings of Goodbye). Introduced to this series by dollonstrings, I was primarily attracted to the music of the show rather than the content itself. But I decided to watch the show after all.

After watching the series, I watched the full lives of the Macross F tours, with the most recent one released in 2010, I think, called cosmic cuune.

I enjoyed their music so much, that I bought two CDs from Yesasia. Check them out below!

Left: cosmic cuune, Right: Universal Bunny

Left: cosmic cuune, Right: Universal Bunny

Overall, I would rate this series a 4/5 (a bit higher because of its catchy music). Not for kids. Moderate fan service content.

Spoilers ahead!

AFA 2012 Part TWO!

This post will have more personal tidbits and bits of conversation I had with everyone backstage. Mostly on Day 3 since on Day 2 I was accompanying Team Thai around, and I was more shy XD Actually everyone is really friendly and you can just talk to them ((:

Have made tiny pacts with people regarding travel, cosplay & some other things. ^^

I will have to say that I have quite a few private photos (& many more private conversations & tidbits) I will keep to myself. To me, meeting so many cosplayers is something I want to share with everyone, but also is a very personal event because I made so many friends ^_^

Check out the pictures after the break ^^

Anime Festival Asia boasts itself to be the biggest, most happening anime, manga & cosplay related event in Singapore! Spanning over 3 days, it features booths, special merchandise, several celebrity guests, concerts & more!

However, I wasn't there to play :P I was working backstage as helper for the Thailand representatives for the Asia Regional Cosplay Championships.

Expect spazzing, random photos & (hopefully) more camwhore photos!

So so so blessed really, for very obvious reasons below. Hint: Had decent conversations with Kaname & Reika & Judy & Mikoto & Tsukasa & Team Shikon & Lunar Asterisk & Clive & Richfield & every other guest including some anisong artistes :D

random ramble + Etsuraku Camellia cover + AFA day report

Did a cover for etsuraku~

My loot from japan auctions arrived recently. Fruits Parlour JSK in Mint and an inowa bolero + miho matsuda gobelin jsk, and Baby's Twinkle Constellation JSK in yellow plus an AP lace bolero to go with it. I wanted to wear my puppet circus yesterday to AFA, because there's really only so many occasions to wear velvet in SG, but it's too bad. Since my EOY audition was yesterday, I had to wear my stage dress! XD I also bought six beautiful rose corsages from Hana Bana. Highly recommend them to everyone~~~ I've not seen better corsages elsewhere for the same price.

Pictures + AFA under the cut.

Remember sellers, never ship without tracking.
And always keep your tracking receipts in a safe place.

[Games] Games Summary Post!

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Disclaimer: This post is purely my own and does not represent the opinions of any parties/companies mentioned.

So here's my summary of games that I've played throughout the month. The games I play vary greatly and are highly dependent on whether it's currently school term or not :P

During school term, I prefer playing games of a shorter duration, like sudoku puzzles and hidden object games (HOG). During the holidays, I like to play on my 3DS or PC games that require longer commitment, like Legend of Heroes series.

What platform do I play my games on?

If you want to always play the latest game releases, Big Fish Games has a very large, up-to-date selection, releasing one game a day! However, I mostly play on HP Games, for they offer a free play on the full version of the game, and I usually finish a hidden object game within the free play itself. BHG however, offers only an hour free or the demo version. ): Plus, buying the games from there is a tad more expensive than HP Games unless you get into the Big Fish Game Club.

On to the games!

It's a little late to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, but better late than never! SNGS held their Moonilght Party last Saturday, and being an alumnus, it was a great opportunity to check out the new compound, meet up with friends and eat all the comfort food I used to eat back in secondary school.

If anyone wants to go back to SNGS for Orange Bowl Noodles, please ensure that you're in proper clothing (covered shoes, shorts of decent length, no spaghetti shirts etc) and only after 3PM. They only allow visitors after 3PM, and Uncle Pang finishes selling orange bowl by 4PM++, and is gone by 5PM.

I've decided to post my random photos on tumblr instead of spamming this blog too much, so feel free to follow me here: http://hirarisa.tumblr.com/ !
Since I want to take photography more seriously and take more pictures from now on, I foresee a huge increase in the number of photos I'll be storing on my computer, unposted. u__u

Excited to take photos of the pretty lolis! Amaya will be coming too. n__n

The picture above is that of an abandoned railway bridge.
I spent some time in my holiday looking for nice photoshoot locations, and from a quick online search, it seemed like the bridge at Sunset Way would be perfect. Alas, it is no longer open to the public, but fenced in with 'danger keep out' signs.

[Personal] Life direction

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Saw this on my Newsfeed, and thought that it would be nice to share. Original response to a question on Quora.

This is the question:

Life: For a 25 year old who has a lot of interests, and lack of direction in life. How does one pick a happy and fulfilling career?

That sounds a lot like me (but I'm not 25. Yet.). How do you separate real passion from just hobbies and interests? Or can you just work on each of them in turn? Which one do you work on first?

Check out the comic strip answer here! I put a link to the picture because showing it directly here doesn't do it justice (shows up too small here).

So what do you think? I hope it provides you with an alternative view of what you're doing with your life right now (:

And to go along with the randomness of this post, this is the one handicraft that I have been working on for years:

The Last Supper
This was made for my mum's dear friend and colleague for her projected 80th birthday. Sadly, she's passed away due to cancer, but I still want to finish it and present it to her at her grave. がんばってto me!

Next up, check out coverage on Moonfest: free performances at the Concourse, 28 Sept - 30 Sept!

Amaya.

[Personal] Internship at CHAT

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Disclaimer: This post is purely my own and do not represent the opinions of any parties/companies mentioned.

A long long overdue post. Earlier this year, I was given the opportunity to intern at IMH's special programme, Early Psychosis Intervention Programme (EPIP) for a month. Like I told my supervisor, I was quite skeptical about the effects and efforts put into all their awareness campaigns. Do they actually work? To what extent do they make a difference? Does the effect last?

The short answer is, they do. The effects are not immediate (delay of gratification, anyone?), but the aim is to equip people with the knowledge that help is available, and where to get help. Also with the hope that these people will pass on this knowledge to other people they meet, who may seem to need some help and support.

Find out more about my internship experience under the cut (:

[Psych] Social allergy effect

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Now this is quite interesting. We all understand 'allergy' to be a reaction to some sort of food (eg. nuts) or environment (eg. dust, pollen) and that the reaction manifests on the physical body as rashes, itches and so on. Do you know that this word is also applied in social relationships?

The social allergy effect occurs when a person's annoying habits grow worse over time, instead of growing more fond of his or her idiosyncrasies. This can apply to both people and things (which might be why the more we listen to construction, the more annoyed we get). Or maybe why you get increasingly annoyed when anime character(s) you dislike keep popping out and result in less screen time for your bias.

Pardon for the lack of pictures, still not used to taking many many photos yet. Plus my camera seems out of focus lately =\

So what's my job

Basically I had to dress up in a meido costume. It was not as awkward as I had expected. 5 minutes into the costume and I forgot about being in it, except when people randomly ask for photos. Was a mini-mini celebrity, because I was 'bonded' to the anibee booth, which deterred some photographers. The boss would ask why they wanted a picture together :P

The pink and white costume!

The free water and doraemon if you signed up as a member (:
I had to tweet about the anisong finals as well! There were 8 finalists and 4 judges. Once they finished singing, we had to tabulate the results immediately xD Winner was Skye with $300 dollars! She had to split it with her guitarist though :P 1st runner-up was Ryodo, 2nd runner-up was Deborah. They also won a nice trophy as well as 1 year premium Anibee membership. Congrats to all winners (:

From top to bottom, left to right: Skye, Kathleen, QB-sensei, Noelle, Grace, Ryodo, Deborah, Sode

[Event] Dance Factory PCP 2012: The view from the sidelines

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

So Friday was the Post Concert Party for Dance Factory's third successful sold-out concert, You'll Never Dance Alone 2012. It was held at Temasek Club Auditorium. Apologies for the lack of photos, as most of them are with the camera-girl, who I will kope from at a later time.

So the place was really secluded, and many people had a hard time finding their way in, and almost all had to cab in from the bus stop. Some bravely ventured along the expressway, please don't do that ever again ><

The crowd (at the beginning)

The cameragirl (deserves some highlighting)

And we had an awards ceremony! We had about 7 awards.

[School] Week 2

, by 雨夜 [アマヤ]

Currently in my 3rd year majoring in Psychology at NUS FASS. It's been a fun trip so far! My academic goal is to push my CAP to 4.2 by the end of this semester. がんばって!

For this semester, I will be focusing on my minor, English Language as well! So I have 2 modules on Psychology, 2 modules on English, and 1 GEM module which will be re-classified as a breadth.

And for all you NUS students, GEK2501 Understanding Your Medications is a must-try module whether for GEM, breadth or UE haha. It's only a 2-hour lecture per week, no tutorials, no textbook, MCQ mid-terms and MCQ finals! No group presentation, assignments whatsoever.  Good right! Plus the lecturer was really supportive of us taking it as an elective:

"Can understand?" -confused faces of students-
"It's okay." -skips 5 slides- "Let us continue. Whatever I skipped, not tested!"

WAH. And he kept skipping slides after that, so... I really hope to do well. :D

I will introduce my other modules in due time (: Modules are really interesting, despite the assignments, exams and all.
