Macarons VS Macaroons

Yes there is a difference.

The coconut ones! Image from here.
Macaroons(ma-ka-rune): Made of egg-whites, sugar and coconut. You can switch out the sugar for syrup, or dip the finished product in chocolate. The main thing is that it has coconut.

Macarons (mah-ka-hron): The colourful ones, made with a meringue base consisting of egg-white and fine sugar, and finely ground almonds. You can pronounce this word either the French way or the English way.

I used to foolishly think that it was okay to call macarOns macaroons (sigh #suaku). Now we all know better (:

Amaya.
